If your idea of “me time” is a shower where no one yells your name through the door, congratulations — you’re officially an adult. And while not all of us have time for a long bubble bath or a spa day, we can drop a fizzy little aromatic puck on the shower floor and pretend we’re in a fancy resort.
Enter: DIY Shower Steamers.
They’re basically bath bombs for people who don’t take baths… or don’t have the time, patience, or emotional energy to sit still for 20 minutes.
They’re cheap, easy, smell amazing, make great gifts, and take about 10 minutes of effort followed by one very satisfying shower.
Let’s elevate your daily rinse.

How to Make Easy DIY Shower Steamers (Step-By-Step)
1. Mix Your Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together:
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup cornstarch
These three are the holy trinity of calm, fizz, and structure.
2. Add Essential Oils (The Best Part)
Choose your vibe:
Relaxing: lavender + chamomile
Energizing: eucalyptus + peppermint
Mood-boosting: lemon + sweet orange
Cold & flu: eucalyptus + peppermint + menthol crystals

Add 25–35 drops of essential oil directly to the dry mixture.
If using menthol crystals, melt 1–2 teaspoons in a double boiler before adding.
Stir well so everything distributes evenly.
3. Lightly Spritz With Water
Using a spray bottle, spritz the mixture 1–2 times, stirring after each spray.
You want it to feel like barely damp sand.
If it starts fizzing — stop spraying (that means too much water).
When you can squeeze the mixture in your hand and it holds its shape, you’re ready.
4. Pack Into Silicone Molds
Press the mixture firmly into your molds. Really pack it down so they don’t crumble after drying.
Smooth the tops with your fingers or the back of a spoon.
5. Let Them Dry
Let the steamers dry:
- 4–6 hours on the counter, or
- In the oven on “warm” for 10–15 minutes (faster method!)
Pop them out of the molds once they’re completely hardened.
How to Use Your Shower Steamers
Place 1 steamer on the shower floor, just outside the direct stream of water (IMPORTANT).
You want the steam (not the water) to activate the yummy scent!
The hotter the shower, the better the scent throw.

Tips & Tricks for Perfect Steamers
- Don’t over-wet the mixture — water = fizz, and we need that fizz saved for the shower.
- Store in an airtight jar so they don’t soften in humid bathrooms.
- Menthol is strong — start small and build up.
- Label your batches if you make multiple scents.
- Avoid skin contact steamers — they’re meant for aromatherapy, not bath use.
