If you’ve ever wished your home smelled like the inside of a cozy coffee shop — warm beans, sweet vanilla, all the “I have my life together” vibes — then this DIY Coffee-Scented Candle is about to become your new obsession. It’s inexpensive, beginner-friendly, and makes your entire house smell like you’re about to sit down with a latte and journal about your goals (even if you’re really just binge-watching Netflix).
Bonus: this one looks adorable.
Think rustic-chic edges, real coffee beans, creamy wax, and the aesthetic of a $28 boutique candle—but for a fraction of the price.
Let’s brew some candle magic.

Some of these items you may have around the house, but the rest can be found at local craft stores or online at Target, Walmart, Amazon. To (hopefully!) simplify your life, we’ve included direct links to the products so you can quickly shop online.
12 Pack, 8 OZ Dark Amber Candle Jars for Making Candle - Thick Glass Jars with 12 Metal & 12 Plastic Lids

Start by cleaning your jar or mug so the wax sticks properly.
Attach your wick to the bottom using:
Use a pencil or wick holder to keep it centered.
Pro Tip: If using wood wicks, place two together for a stronger crackle.
Pour your soy wax flakes into your metal pitcher.
Place the pitcher inside a pot of simmering water (double-boiler method).
Heat until fully melted — around 170–180°F.
Stir gently so the wax melts evenly.
Once melted, remove from heat and let cool to about 150°F.
Then add:
Stir for a full minute so the fragrance binds to the wax.
Scent Tip: Using real coffee grounds in the wax can cause burning — stick to fragrance oil and use whole beans only on top of your candle.
Pour the scented wax slowly into your container, leaving about ½ inch at the top.
Stop halfway, add a few whole coffee beans along the edges for aesthetic purposes, then continue pouring.
Don’t overfill with beans—they’re decorative, not functional.
Let it sit undisturbed.
Before the wax fully sets (about 10–20 minutes after pouring), sprinkle a few coffee beans gently on the surface.
This makes the candle look like it came straight from a high-end boutique.
Important Tip: Don’t add too many beans — you want the wax to grip them firmly so they don’t loosen later. I typically add about 5 or 6 to the top, depending on the type of candle jar I’m using.
Allow your candle to cool completely for several hours.
Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before lighting.
The scent will deepen over the next 24 hours, so let it “cure” if you want maximum coffee-shop aroma.
